AFAB Holds Chess Tournament with Grandmaster Joey Antonio
In support of the talented Mariveleño chess players and to provide a venue for them to train and hone their skills, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) held a one-day chess tournament last 19 July 2019 with Chess Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. at the AFAB Administration Building, FAB, Mariveles, Bataan.
Almost ninety (90) players, mainly FAB workers and executives, as well as students and residents of Mariveles, Bataan joined GM Joey Antonio Jr. in a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition in the morning and in the Chairman Chess Cup in the afternoon.
In the Simultaneous Chess Exhibition, Grand Master Joey played against thirty-six (36) opponents and tallied thirty-three (33) wins, two (2) draws with players Luisito Ramos and Rojan Kristian Aguilar of Balon Elementary School and only one (1) loss to Joselle B. Moreno from FCF Manufacturing Corp. For the Chairman Chess Cup, Ferdinand Aviles from the Philippine National Bank (PNB) Mariveles emerged as the Champion, Joselle Moreno as 1st runner up, Jimson Linda as 2nd runner up and Ryan Christian Galang came up as 3rd runner up.
Special awards were also given to Nonoy Velasco (Top Worker), Romy Malinana (Top Senior Player), Rojan Kristian Aguilar (Top Kiddie Player) and Reinna Forio (Top Lady Player).
National Arbiters Alfredo Chay, Miel Bautista, Antonio Laureano and Jenison Pama of the Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines supervised the tournament.
This one-day Chess Tournament is part of the AFAB’s League of Locators (LoL) 2019, a two-month sports league aimed to provide an opportunity for the workers to engage in wellness activities while also serving the purpose of nurturing camaraderie and fellowship among FAB’s registered enterprises and accredited service providers.
