The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) reaffirmed its commitment to upholding data privacy and security as it hosted its Annual Data Privacy Act Orientation on 20 February 2025 at the AFAB Auditorium. The event was conducted in partnership with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and was graced by the presence of NPC Chairman and Privacy Commissioner, Atty. John Henry D. Naga.

The orientation gathered a diverse audience, including FAB-registered enterprises, educational institutions, religious organizations, business entities, and AFAB employees, all of whom play critical roles in ensuring compliance with Republic Act No. 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The event served as a vital platform for reinforcing awareness of data privacy regulations, promoting responsible data management practices, and addressing compliance challenges faced by various sectors within the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).

Atty. Mikhail Josef P. Soriano, Development Management Officer III of the NPC, led discussions on Republic Act No. 10173 (Data Privacy Act of 2012), covering the fundamentals of the Data Privacy Act, outlining data subjects’ rights, compliance obligations, and penalties for non-compliance.
An open forum allowed participants to engage directly with the NPC, addressing concerns on data breach notifications, handling sensitive information, cross-border transfers, and regulatory compliance.
By fostering an environment of compliance and vigilance, AFAB reinforces its position as a responsible regulatory authority committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals and ensuring that businesses and institutions within FAB adhere to the highest standards of data governance.
