Bataan plans massive housing program

Balanga City, Bataan — Rep. Enrique “Tet” Garcia revealed over the weekend that a massive low-cost housing program for workers of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) and the homeless is now being finalized in the province.

Briefing newsmen at his residence here last Saturday, Garcia said that he and his son Governor Abet S. Garcia are now closely coordinating with the Pag-IBIG Fund for the immediate construction of massive housing projects in the towns of Mariveles, site of FAB, Limay, and this city.

Based on the design, Provincial Engineer Ric Yuzon said the proposed construction period of the unit will only take six days to finish it. “But Cong Tet and Gov Abet wanted to see another design,” stressed Yuzon.

A 5.6-hectare parcel of land has been set for the housing site in Barangay Bagong Silang, this city. Each housing unit will have a floor area of 100 square meters and cost only P500,000.

Still, the Garcias said the amount will be reduced since most of the beneficiaries are lowly-paid workers and informal settlers only.

A number of employees at the Provincial Capitol are also willing to avail of the housing units.

In Mariveles, a mid-rise condominium is also being proposed to accommodate the growing number of workers and personnel in the FAB.
