AFAB, PDRRMO Conducts Contingency Planning Training Workshop

To further the agency’s cause of ensuring the safety and welfare of all its stakeholders, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan conducted a 4-day Contingency Planning Formulation Training facilitated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) last 18-21 June 2019 at the AFAB Administration Building, FAB, Mariveles, Bataan.

A Contingency Plan (CP) is a scenario-based plan for a specific and projected natural and/or human- induced hazard. It aims to address the impacts of the hazard and to prevent the occurrence of the emerging threats by arranging well-coordinated responses and enabling efficient management of resources. The training intends to provide a deeper understanding of the substantive nature and processes involved in the formulation of CPs.

The training was facilitated by CP experts from the PDRRMO headed by Josefina T. Timoteo and Glenn Diwa. The training course has four (4) modules with the following topics: Introduction to Contingency Planning, Important Factors in Contingency Planning, the Contingency Planning Process and Testing of the Draft CP. The outputs of this activity will form part of the agency's working Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (DRRMP).

Contingency Planning is one of the identified mechanisms by the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 or Republic Act No. 10121 in building disaster- resilient communities. RA 10121 mandates all government agencies to facilitate and support risk assessment and Contingency Planning in their respective units.
