AFAB Joins Regular 2018 PIPP-TWG Meeting
The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) attended the latest regular meeting of the Philippine Investment Promotion Plan (PIPP) - Technical Working Group (TWG) held last 25-26 April 2018 in Davao City, with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) as the host agency.
Attending the TWG meeting were representatives from Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO), Board of Investments (BOI), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Regional Board of Investments – Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (RBOI-ARMM), Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Subic Clark Alliance for Development Council (SCAD), Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), and Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority (ZCSEZA).
Discussed during the meeting were initiatives to further enhance the 2018 PIPP Work Plan, which aims to generate further investment and employment in the economic zones and freeports. A call was likewise made for the PIPP to be unified in dealing with potential development and labor concerns. Representing the AFAB during the meeting was Ms. Eliza G. Calimag, Department Manager of AFAB’s Corporate Affairs Department.
The PIPP is a network of 19 Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) whose undertaking includes the formulation and development of various strategies in order to position the Philippines as among the major choice destinations for investments, with each IPA having their own distinct functions and core competencies. The PIPP is subdivided into three categories – Manufacturing and Logistics/IT-BPM Cluster, Agribusiness Cluster, and Tourism Cluster – with the AFAB being a part of the Manufacturing and Logistics/IT-BPM Cluster.
