AFAB Joins International Coastal Clean-up Day
The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) joined the 2018 International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day, simultaneously done in the areas within Mariveles, Bataan last 22 September 2018.
Around 55 volunteers from AFAB participated in the clean-ups along the stretch of Zigzag Road, Panikian River, and Mattel Beach. Volunteers from the local government unit, other government agencies, non-government organizations, different multi-purpose cooperatives, and private companies also joined in the clean-up.
The event was originally scheduled last 15 September 2018 but was postponed on account of inclement weather due to Typhoon Ompong.
In adherence to the Presidential Proclamation No. 470, s. 2003, the official ICC Day is simultaneously held and coordinated globally every third Saturday of September where communities are encouraged to participate in the clearing of coastlines, rivers, lakes, creeks, canals and other waterways tributaries. Moreover, the local government units (LGUs) and volunteers are also encouraged to help in efforts to identify and record the waste collected for analysis of the Ocean Conservancy for validation and publication.
The International Coastal Clean Up is the world's largest single-day volunteer effort for the improvement and maintenance of the marine environment and local waterways.
