AFAB, GLC, inks LED Streetlights Contract
The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) signed a contract with Green Lighting Corp. (GLC) for the provision and installation of LED Streetlights in the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) last 05 June 2018.
GLC was the winning bidder of the public bidding conducted for the project “AFAB Power Saving Project: Conversion of conventional Lighting to LED Lighting for AFAB Streetlights through a Lease-to-Own Modality (Supply & Installation)”.
AFAB Deputy Administrator for Operations Alewijn Aidan K. Ong remarked during the contract signing that this is an important step towards the AFAB’s goal of promoting sustainable development and ecological balance. He also added that with this initiative, the FAB shall be the first Freeport zone in the country to install LED streetlights in their respective area.
LEDs or Light-Emitting Diodes produce the most energy-efficient and longest-lasting lighting available today. Currently, the streetlights in the FAB are of the incandescent or halogen type – both of which are less efficient than LED ones. LEDs run cooler than incandescent or halogen bulbs, which greatly increases their longevity – LEDs can last up to 50,000 hours which is 42 times longer than incandescent bulbs or 13 times longer than halogen bulbs. LEDs also consume the least power as compared to other lighting technologies – 80 percent less than incandescent bulbs and 75 percent less than halogen bulbs.
GLC is a global company that specializes in the development of LED lighting technology. They have production facilities in the Philippines that manufacture their products that are of the highest standards in the LED industry.
