AFAB, DENR-EMB Hold Forum on Environmental Awareness
As part of its efforts to raise awareness about the Philippine environmental laws, the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB), in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), held an Environmental Awareness Forum last 16 July 2019 at the Audio Visual Room of the AFAB Administration Building, FAB, Mariveles, Bataan.
The forum provided the participants with relevant information on environmental laws such as the Republic Act (R.A.) 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, R.A. 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, R.A. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and R.A. 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 1990. Also discussed during the forum were the prohibited acts, penal provisions, and permit requirements applicable within the FAB. Said laws were discussed by resource speakers from DENR-EMB namely Mr. Ramjay G. Dizon, Engr. James L. Romero, Mr. Jun D. Guillermo and Engr. Lily Amor S. Castro.
In his opening remarks, AFAB Chairman and Administrator Emmanuel D. Pineda emphasized the importance of such activities in pursuing sustainable development. He also urged the participants to bring upon a positive contribution to the community in their capacity as safety, pollution control, and environment officers. “Here in the FAB, we promote the idea of sustainable development as the endgame for both the government and the private sector… By ensuring the availability of clean water and air, and the continued proper management of resources and wastes alike, we not only ensure that future generations would have the ability to meet their demands, but to further improve the quality of their lives. ”, he added.
The Environmental Awareness Forum was organized by the AFAB Freeport Facilities Department (FFD) – Environment and Utilities Division (EUD) and was attended by almost one hundred (100) participants from FAB covered barangays, FAB registered Enterprises and establishments within the FAB.
